Experts alone can’t handle AI — social scientists explain why the public needs a seat at the table

Posted by in categories: biotech/medical, Elon Musk, information science, military, robotics/AI

Are democratic societies ready for a future in which AI algorithmically assigns limited supplies of respirators or hospital beds during pandemics? Or one in which AI fuels an arms race between disinformation creation and detection? Or sways court decisions with amicus briefs written to mimic the rhetorical and argumentative styles of Supreme Court justices?

Decades of research show that most democratic societies struggle to hold nuanced debates about new technologies. These discussions need to be informed not only by the best available science but also the numerous ethical, regulatory and social considerations of their use. Difficult dilemmas posed by artificial intelligence are already
 More.

Even AI experts are uneasy about how unprepared societies are for moving forward with the technology in a responsible fashion. We study the public and political aspects of emerging science. In 2022, our research group at the University of Wisconsin-Madison interviewed almost 2,200 researchers who had published on the topic of AI. Nine in 10 (90.3%) predicted that there will be unintended consequences of AI applications, and three in four (75.9%) did not think that society is prepared for the potential effects of AI applications.

Honor Magic V2 & Honor V Purse — The Future of Foldables?

Posted by in categories: Elon Musk, mobile phones, sustainability, transportation

Don’t always follow what is popular, as what is good becomes popular, like the iPhone vs Nokia phones. How many people has Tiktok poached from Facebook? WeChat is inspiring Elon Musk. Yeah China has made fake stuff in the past, but this isn’t as well as China’s electric car market. I don’t discriminate, and I even want to buy my parents a Nigerian car that runs on LNG and CNG. Eric I hope if they make this concept, you buy Gen this Honor V Purse, or even buy both of you the Honor Magic V2.

Elon Musk’s X tells users that it could use their posts to train AI models

Posted by in categories: Elon Musk, policy, robotics/AI, transportation

X’s new privacy policy, which is due to come into effect on September 29, states that the company “may use the information we collect and publicly available information to help train our machine learning or artificial intelligence models for the purposes outlined in this policy.” This policy is not included in its previous terms, which are still posted online.

Musk responded to a post about this change on X, saying that it would only use publicly available information to train the AI and would not use “DMs or anything private.”

During a live audio session on X – formerly Twitter – in July, Elon Musk said that his AI startup, xAI, would use public data from his social media platform to train its AI models. Insider reached out to X for comment but didn’t immediately hear back. It is not clear how it will use the information from X and which AI models this relates to.

Predicting the SpaceX Starship Interior: A Glimpse into the Spaceship Interior of the Revolutionary Vessel

Posted by in categories: Elon Musk, space travel

As humanity’s gaze turns towards the stars, one name stands at the forefront of the space exploration revolution: Elon Musk’s SpaceX. Among its many ambitious projects, the SpaceX Starship promises to reshape our understanding of interplanetary travel. This colossal 9-meter diameter rocket has captured our imagination with the grand vision of shuttling thousands of people on a six-month journey to Mars. But what lies within this futuristic vessel? What can we expect from the spaceship interior that aims to make long-duration space travel a reality?

Historically, our mental image of a spacecraft has often been based on cramped capsules, such as the iconic Apollo 11, Soyuz, or Dragon. These designs, while functional, have offered little in the way of comfort. Even modern incarnations like the Orion spacecraft still lack the headroom to stand upright inside the Command Module. With its larger size, the space shuttle hinted at more livable conditions, but it still fell short of providing ample space for extended journeys.

Enter the SpaceX Starship—a towering, 9-meter diameter rocket that evokes images of Flash Gordon’s futuristic transport. Elon Musk’s vision of a vessel capable of shuttling thousands to Mars within six months is a compelling proposition. However, spending half a year in the confined space of a metal box hurtling through an interplanetary void is daunting, even if the box is quite spacious. As we anticipate the Starship interior, our expectations are high, and speculation runs rampant about what life onboard might entail.

Grimes Says She Asked Elon Musk Why He’s So Obsessed With Trans People

Posted by in categories: Elon Musk, media & arts, robotics/AI

Electronic music artist, generative AI enthusiast and on-off Elon Musk partner Claire “Grimes” Boucher seems to want to build bridges between the tech billionaire and the trans community he’s alienated so relentlesslly.

In a wide-ranging new interview with Wired, Boucher mentioned that she’d had a “big, long conversation” with her kids’ dad about “the trans thing,” and came to a similar conclusion as she made when publicly replying to one of his transphobic tweets: that bigotry isn’t in his “heart.”

“I was like, ‘I want to dissect why you’re so stressed about this,’” the artist, who also goes by the letter c, told the magazine. “Getting to the heart of what Elon says helps me get to the heart of what other people’s issues are, because it’s this ĂŒber guy situation.”
