And how much effect will it have on us?The existence of Neuralink was first made public in 2017, when The Wall Street Journal reported on it. The company’s first significant public appearance was in 2019, when Elon Musk and other members of the Neuralink leadership team demonstrated their technology in a live streamed presentation. Neuralink’s chip is roughly the size of a penny and would be implanted in a person’s skull. An array of tiny wires, each nearly 20 times thinner than a human hair, spread out from the chip and into the patient’s brain. The cables include 1,024 electrodes that can monitor brain activity and, potentially, electrically activate the brain. This data is wirelessly transferred by the chip to computers, where it may be examined by researchers. A stiff needle, similar to a sewing machine, would be used to punch the flexible wires emerging from a Neuralink chip into a person’s brain. In January 2021, Neuralink produced a video displaying the robot.
Musk claims that the machine will make implanting Neuralink electrodes as simple as LASIK eye surgery. While this is an audacious assertion, neuroscientists told Insider in 2019 that the machine has several extremely promising aspects.📺 Watch the entire video for more information!#elon #musk #neuralink #spacex #tesla #elonmusk.

AI creator warns of ‘apocalyptic’ artificial intelligence that will replace need for humans

Posted by in categories: Elon Musk, existential risks, robotics/AI

ROBOTS could one day overthrow humans in an ‘apocalyptic’ takeover, a tech expert has predicted.

Aidan Meller, the creator of the Ai-Da robot, believes that within three years artificial intelligence (AI) could overtake humanity, per The Daily Star.

He also backs Elon Musk’s belief that advances in AI could impact mankind more than nuclear war.

This Canadian company wants to build a train-plane ‘hybrid’ that can go 620 miles per hour—take a look

Posted by in categories: Elon Musk, energy, transportation

Move over, Elon Musk and Richard Branson: A Canadian company wants to join the fight for better high-speed train travel.

Toronto-based TransPod recently unveiled plans for a “FluxJet,” a fully-electric transportation system that’s “a hybrid between an aircraft and a train.” The project, currently in the conceptual stage, would involve 82-foot-long, magnetically levitated trains that would carry passengers at roughly 621 miles per hour.

Elon Musk Suggests That a Brain Parasite Is Forcing Humans to Create Superhuman AI

Posted by in categories: Elon Musk, internet, robotics/AI

Elon Musk tweeted a fascinating — and frankly unsettling — theory last night about how a brain parasite might be forcing all humans to create advanced AI.

The Tesla CEO was responding to a story from National Geographic about how toxoplasmosis, a common parasite often found in cats, seems to be causing hyenas to be reckless around predators such as lions. In a staggering and perhaps facetious leap of logic, Musk suggested that the parasite is actually what’s causing humans to create advanced artificial intelligence.

“Toxoplasmosis infects rats, then cats, then humans who make cat videos,” Musk tweeted on Friday. “AI trains achieves superhuman intelligence training on Internet cat videos, thus making toxoplasmosis the true arbiter of our destiny.”

Departed Neuralink Co-Founder Locks Down $47 Million for Secretive Neuroscience Startup

Posted by in categories: biotech/medical, Elon Musk, neuroscience

When Neuralink co-founder Max Hodak announced his enigmatic departure from the company earlier this year, it was unclear whether he quit due to disagreements with fellow co-founder Elon Musk or if he was fired for moving too slow on clinical trials.

Now, Futurism has learned, Hodak is working on what appears to be a well-funded new brain interface venture called Science Corp. According to an SEC filing from July, Hodak has already raised more than $47 million from 14 investors for the new company — not quite as much as Neuralink’s $363 million to date, but a rousing start that could signal growing competition in the nascent neurotech market.

Moreover, Hodak appears to be taking some talent from Neuralink with him. Alan Mardinly, Neuralink’s longtime director of biology, recently changed his LinkedIn account to say that he has been working at a “stealth startup” since July 2021 and left his position at Neuralink in August 2021 — and posted a link to Science Corp’s hiring page along with an exhortation to “join early,” strongly suggesting that he’s on board the venture.
