How is human behaviour impacted by an unfair AI? A game of Tetris reveals all

Posted by in categories: entertainment, information science, robotics/AI

A team of researchers give a spin to Tetris, and make observations as people play the game.

We live in a world run by machines. They make important decisions for us, like who to hire, who gets approved for a loan, or recommending user content on social media. Machines and computer programs have an increasing influence over our lives, now more than ever, with artificial intelligence (AI) making inroads in our lives in new ways. And this influence goes far beyond the person directly interacting with machines.

A Cornell University-led experiment in which two people play a modified version of Tetris revealed that players who get fewer turns perceived the other player as less likable, regardless of whether a person or an algorithm allocated the turns.

Sunspot explosion blasts out M-class solar flares! Causes radio blackout in USA

Posted by in categories: entertainment, particle physics

The possibility of the Sun causing catastrophic damage on Earth might seem something out of a science-fiction film, but this threat is very true. One of the best examples of Solar activity harming Earth was provided by the Roland Emmerich film 2012. It depicted the apocalypse prophesied by the Mayans many centuries ago. The storyline of the movie revolved around the Sun emitting unstable neutrinos because of anomalous energy processes, which were causing the Earth’s core to heat up and eventually lead to its destruction.

Although the ‘science’ part of the film was a bit over the top, the threat posed by the Sun could cause significant damage on Earth, and a recent solar flare impact gave us a hint of the Sun’s mighty power.

According to a report by spaceweather.com, a Reversed-polarity sunspot, given the designation AR3296, exploded on the Sun, blasting out dangerous solar flares directly towards Earth yesterday, May 7. Forecasters at NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) revealed that this explosion on the solar surface produced a M1.5-class solar flare which lasted for a substantial amount of time.

Builder.ai: Microsoft invests in no-code builder startup to boost AI game

Posted by in categories: entertainment, information science, robotics/AI

Microsoft will also contribute its algorithm knowledge to make Builder.ai’s Natasha, an AI assistant, sound more human.

Microsoft Corporation has invested an undisclosed amount in Builder.ai, a no-code builder startup, as it looks to diversify its bets in the artificial intelligence (AI) game. Builder.ai lets users with no technical knowledge or experience in coding build their own apps and manage them.

Microsoft is already ahead in the AI game thanks to its partnership with OpenAI, the maker of the popular chatbot ChatGPT.

AI offers new tools for making games, but developers worry about their jobs

Posted by in categories: entertainment, robotics/AI

The early days of AI in game development have been full of questions and murky answers.

For the most part, AI is exceptionally bad at illustrating hands. They come out six-fingered or four-fingered or, even worse, just some wispy ends that fade into the background. AI has been programming large Western 1940s-era smiles onto people of various cultures. It’s been reshaping images we know and refitting them according to prompts. Depending on the data that it’s fed, though, sometimes AI has solutions, and sometimes it doesn’t. Video game developers and AI companies want to use these AI tools to streamline game development and make it faster.

As major video game publishers like Ubisoft start to utilize AI for their development workflows, developers are beginning to worry about future job prospects.

Avengers’ Director Joe Russo Predicts AI Could Be Making Movies in ‘Two Years’: It Will ‘Engineer and Change Storytelling

Posted by in categories: entertainment, robotics/AI

Called it. and i said 2029/2030. Looks like will happen sooner. my prediction was AI would be able to do 100% of production start to end, with almost zero input from people, except maybe for a creative director — producer person.

As artificial intelligence continues to disrupt the entertainment industry, many moviegoers have been left wondering at what point AI will be creating full feature films. According to Joe Russo, co-director of Marvel movies such as “Avengers: Endgame” and “Avengers: Infinity War,” that time could be coming in two years.

“I’m on the board of a few AI companies,” Russo told Collider. “I’m gonna speak from my experience of being on the board of those companies, [so] there are AI companies that are developing AI to protect you from AI. And unfortunately, we’re in that world, and you will need an AI in your life because whether we want to see it developed or not, people who are not friendly to us may develop it anyways. So, we’re going to be in that future. The question is, then, how we protect ourselves in that future?”

The first-ever feature film shot in space has premiered on April 20, 2023 and Moscow is celebrating the achievement, considering it a victory over a rival Hollywood project amid rising tensions with the West. In October 2021, Russia dispatched an actor and a film director to the International Space Station to shoot scenes for a movie titled “The Challenge.” The plot of the film revolves around a surgeon who is sent to the ISS to save an injured cosmonaut. The filming took place during a 12-day stint onboard the orbiting laboratory. In a competition to produce the first feature film shot in space, the Russian crew emerged as the winners, surpassing a Hollywood project that was announced in 2020 by Tom Cruise in collaboration with NASA and Elon Musk’s SpaceX.
