Surprise: the Big Bang isn’t the beginning of the universe anymore

Posted by in categories: cosmology, singularity

We used to think the Big Bang meant the universe began from a singularity. Nearly 100 years later, we’re not so sure.

“More Life Into a Time Without Boundaries.” Jeanette Winterson Considers the Bigger Picture of AI

Posted by in categories: biological, Ray Kurzweil, robotics/AI, singularity

In 2009—four years after it was published—I read Ray Kurzweil’s The Singularity Is Near. It is an optimistic view of the future—a future that depends on computational technology. A future of superintelligent machines. It is also a future where humans will transcend our present biological limits.

I had to read the book twice—once for the sense and once for the detail.

After that, just for my own interest, year-in, year-out, I started to track this future; that meant a weekly read through New Scientist, Wired, the excellent technology pieces in the New York Times and the Atlantic, as well as following the money via the Economist and Financial Times. I picked up any new science and tech books that came out, but it wasn’t enough for me. I felt I wasn’t seeing the bigger picture.

How You Will Live to 200 Years — New Longevity Technologies

Posted by in categories: biotech/medical, holograms, life extension, robotics/AI, singularity

I hope we get the hologram interfaces depicted too.

It’s becoming clear that aging is just as curable as other diseases such as the cold or a broken bone. Advancements in biotechnology now allow for targeted gene therapy and supplements to be invented that can both stop aging and even reverse the aging process through new Longevity Technology. The field of Longevity has expanded and evolved a lot during the past few years and have invented new treatments for diseases of old people which could increase the average lifespan of people by a ton according to the leading scientists such as David Sinclair and Aubrey De Grey. Anti Aging Supplements such as Metformin and NAD+, NMN are just the start.

Every day is a day closer to the Technological Singularity. Experience Robots learning to walk & think, humans flying to Mars and us finally merging with technology itself. And as all of that happens, we at AI News cover the absolute cutting edge best technology inventions of Humanity.

Former Google Exec Warns That AI Researchers Are “Creating God”

Posted by in categories: business, robotics/AI, singularity

According to a former Google executive, the singularity is coming. And, what’s more, he says that it poses a major threat to humanity.

Mo Gawdat, formerly the Chief Business Officer for Google’s moonshot organization, which was called Google X at the time, issued his warning in a new interview with The Times. In it, he said that he believes that artificial general intelligence (AGI), the sort of all-powerful, sentient AI seen in science fiction like Skynet from “The Terminator,” is inevitable — and that once it’s here, humanity may very well find itself staring down an apocalypse brought forth by godlike machines.

Gawdat told The Times that he had his frightening revelation while working with AI developers at Google X who were building robot arms capable of finding and picking up a small ball. After a period of slow progress, Gawdat said that one arm grabbed the ball and seemed to hold it up to the researchers in a gesture that, to him, seemed like it was showing off.

Where Do We Fit in the Cosmic Scheme and Where Are We Headed?

Posted by in categories: quantum physics, robotics/AI, singularity

Topological quantum computing is probably one of the most promising fields of the future which would greatly boost machine learning that already employs combined elements of cognitive, evolutionary and neuromorphic engineering. Post-singularity artificial superintelligence could have complete access to their own source code — a level of self-awareness presently beyond human capability. That would allow the post-singularity syntelligence to create myriad virtual worlds right out of its own superimagination. We can’t completely rule out a possibility that we’re part of that simulated reality right now. At the same time, we ourselves are moving towards the point of Theogenesis where we can rightly call ourselves cybergods.

Will a Biological Singularity Arrive First?

Posted by in categories: biological, computing, mobile phones, neuroscience, Ray Kurzweil, singularity

I believe if superintelligence can be digitized into computer code then essentially a microchip could send electrical impulses to one’s brain noninvasive like the microchip that heals from Ohio state and then superintelligence could be attained and the biological wetware could be easily acquire the biological singularity. Much like the moto that Apple has all things digital a new superintelligence attribute could uploaded and the human could evolve or gene edit from a smartphone also the impulse could be non invasive like low level electrical impulse sending data to the brain using existing hardware. We could be as advanced as any exterrestial civilization in a couple keystrokes using existing hardware.

Popular expectations for the future are helplessly colored by present trends. The assumption is always that whatever’s going on now can be safely extrapolated into the future along a linear (or, per Kurzweil, logarithmic) curve. So it was that during the space race, baby boomers took for granted that we’d have fully colonized the solar system by the year 2000.
