ChatGPT has been making headlines worldwide, but not all are impressed. Yann LeCun, Meta’s chief artificial intelligence (AI) scientist, had some harsh words for the program in an hour-and-a-half talk hosted by the Collective Forecast. The research is published in Nature Communications.

The public perceives OpenAI’s ChatGPT as revolutionary, but the same techniques are being used and the same kind of work is going on at many research labs, says the deep learning pioneer.

To be clear: I’m not criticizing OpenAI’s work nor their claims.

I’m trying to correct a *perception* by the public & the media who see chatGPT as this incredibly new, innovative, & unique technological breakthrough that is far ahead of everyone else.
