They finally reached ignition again last week, according to a statement Sunday from the lab. The news was first reported by the Financial Times.

“In an experiment conducted on July 30, we repeated ignition,” the statement read. “Analysis of those results is underway. As is our standard practice, we plan on reporting those results at upcoming scientific conferences and in peer-reviewed publications.”

Unlike fission, the process used in current nuclear power plants, fusion involves smashing atoms together instead of splitting them apart. It theoretically can supply carbon-free energy without long-lasting radioactive waste. But generations of scientists have struggled to master it in a controlled reaction, even though it has been the power source of nuclear weapons for decades.

The US dispatched four navy warships as well as a reconnaissance airplane after multiple Chinese and Russian military vessels carried out a joint naval patrol near Alaska last week.

BEIJING (AP) — China imposed restrictions Monday on exports of long-range civilian drones, citing Russia’s war in Ukraine and concern that drones might be converted to military use.

Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s government is friendly with Moscow but says it is neutral in the 17-month-old war. It has been stung by reports that both sides might be using Chinese-made drones for reconnaissance and possibly attacks.

Export controls will take effect Tuesday to prevent use of drones for “non-peaceful purposes,” the Ministry of Commerce said in a statement. It said some drone exports still will be allowed.

Arms reduction is a noble goal, but it’s not one being pursued by some of the worst regimes in the world. The late George Shultz, former secretary of state for Ronald Reagan and a Cold Warrior, once advised against proliferating nuclear weapons. He quipped that “proliferation begets proliferation,” which the arms control lobby has used for decades to prevent the U.S. government from developing nukes.

This is older but this is just the tip of the iceberg. China is rumored to be working on genetic engineering to create “super soldiers” and they’re one country that isn’t stopped by ethics concerns. In the Prime TV series “The peripheral” it has something similar and I don’t want to spoil it beyond that. I think there’s a Vin Diesel movie called Blood Shot where he’s made into a super soldier. It’s a shame that this is used for warfare but the plus side is it’ll, some of the tech, will make its way down to civilian life such as the Internet did.

Here’s a better use for AI than warfare, which coming from a military family I see as a sad but necessary thing seeing as how Russia likes to invade people lately, but I hope we can keep peace with China, but anyway I’ve always loved animals. They called me Dr Dolittle as a child because I played with animals a lot. I hope for world peace. Perhaps AI can help diplomats communicate better as well. I know, you’d think we’d be able to but it doesn’t seem to be the case.

US spies are probing whether Covid was created by a Chinese military scientist before it leaked from a Wuhan lab, according to reports.

Zhou Yusen, who worked for the People’s Liberation Army, filed a patent for a Covid vaccine before the pandemic was declared — and mysteriously died just weeks later.

Zhou, 54, worked alongside researchers at the under-fire Wuhan Institute of Virology — the lab at the centre of the storm over a possible lab leak.
