Listening

Posted by in categories: entertainment, neuroscience

LISTENING, the award-winning debut feature from visionary director Khalil Sullins, is a psychological thriller about penniless grad students who invent mind-reading technology that destroys their lives. David, Ryan, and Jordan hope the telepathy invention will solve all their problems, but the bleeding-edge technology opens a Pandora’s box of new dangers, as the team discovers that when they open their minds, there is nowhere to hide their thoughts. Secrets and betrayals surface, and the technology is stolen by a covert government agency with a hidden agenda. With no one left to trust, David is forced against his friends in a life-or-death battle over not only the privacy of the human mind, but the future of free will itself.

Here’s A Book That Adds a Fascinating New Dimension to Posthuman Space Opera

Posted by in categories: cyborgs, entertainment, space

By now, the stories of humans transcending their limitations in space have become pretty much ubiquitous. We’ve had space cyborgs, space immortals, and tons of other posthumans in space. But the new novel Edge of Dark by Brenda Cooper still represents a fascinating new approach. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00?tag=lifeboatfound-20

This cool Christmas tale features love, spaceships, and scary meteors

Posted by in categories: entertainment, space

Anomaly is an unusual Christmas tale, set in the late 60’s, which tells the story of a group of people connected by the same astrological event: A frightening meteor that will enter and exit the atmosphere. It is weird and sad and hopeful and just really interesting to watch.

Anomaly is an independent short film directed by Dan DiFelice & Salomon Lightelm. The film rose up to $60,000 in its Kikstarter campaign but it looks as gorgeous as if they had spent two million. Great post production houses like The Mill and Framestore also collaborated in the project. We featured Anomaly here the same day it was released on the Internet and we are very happy to have it on the Sploid Short Film Festival.

Depending on who you ask, there are somewhere between 90 million to 135 million esports enthusiasts — defined as those who watch gaming regularly, online or off — and more than double that number of occasional viewers. According to a recent SuperData report, the esports sector will this year generate an estimated revenue of $621m worldwide.”

Hit TV show Humans on intelligent android servants

Posted by in categories: entertainment, robotics/AI

A reminder: HUMANS premieres in the U.S. Sunday June 28, 2015 at 9PM EDT on AMC.

This eight-part drama series takes place in a parallel present, featuring the Synth — a highly developed, artificially intelligent android servant.

Having seen the first two episodes, I’m totally hooked. I found the show surprisingly believable. It (almost) fills the void left after Almost Human and Fringe.

The Video For Nero’s Two Minds Is Like A Lost ‘80s Cyberpunk Flick

Posted by in category: entertainment

The video for Two Minds, the latest single from British electronic trio NERO looks just like it’s a lost cyberpunk film from the 1980s. It’s got that early digital look to it, and the story that plays out wouldn’t be out of place on a stack of forgotten VHS tapes.

The video single, which is on the band’s upcoming album, Between II Worlds, follows a being made of static who can jump into televisions. Like any good ‘80s movie, its pursued by a bunch of grim looking men in trench coats who are deadset on taking it down, for … reasons. Throw in a hapless hero who gets caught in the middle, and you’ve got the perfect science fiction adventure.

The song is pretty catchy, too. Between II Worlds is due out on August 28th.
